help MIDTERMS

I understand most of the things that we have learned so far. All of the Literary Analyzes stuff is burned into the side of my brain. And the  short stories that we read for class, we reviewed them so much I think I might die. We also just did he Thesis work and where no done so I think I can handle that.
One thing that I defiantly need to go over is the summer reading. I remember In Defense of Food, but I don't know Nation as well. The other thing we are currently doing already. The Lord of the Flies, I keep getting lost of confused and I am not absorbing 100% of the information. That's okay though because we are discussing it in class witch helps.

reading

The week before Thanks giving break, reading lord of the flies consumed my life. I was having to read over things on multiple occasions and spending time that I barley had in the first place. Some of the main things hat a have noticed is that Jack is a total jerk and gets really annoying really quickly, and Simon seems to be smarted and better than everyone else (would be a better leader) but does not say anything because he is also humble.
Then,  Piggy is a total wimp without the conch and when he has it he speaks his mind and feels like whatever he says is right and does not have consequences. Lastly,   Ralph seems like he is not use to being in charge, he does not really know what he is doing and it feels like he is just going off a T.V. show. Some questions that I have relate to all the symbols. Why does Jack keep pushing piggy around, and will it ever extremely effect the story-line? I only ask this because piggy is my main character and if Jack is going to keep doing this I'm going to bring on the HURT. haha just kidding.

Stranded and reading

Be as detailed as you can, and make sure to be respectful of your fellow classmates.

I thought that the airplane stimulation was a great activity for the class before starting the reading. Block one as a whole did a great job. We had fabulous leadership (Shout out to Diamond) and we could all agree on working together. Our greatest productions were establishing a ruler and looking for food and water. The worst thing... well, I cant really thing of anything that really stood out that we did poorly.
If our class where to have this same thing happen to them, I believe we would be well prepared. We would also survive, and live until we were saved. Our distributions on a leader and what to do first would help in the beginning of out journey. We would also have a plan for food and water, but the one thing I now realize is that we would need weapons and shelter witch we did not really focus on.

Free post sinister

Last night was the best night ever. I went to the movies with my friends for Taylor's birthday. We went to see sinister, witch I thought was amazing. It was about a writer, and he writes stories about murders. Everything was great, until he finds a box in the attic. Once he watches the videos, he sees the films, he notices a creature. He does research, and they are all connected. So he continues his investigation.

He finds that all the people killed where linked to eachother because they lived in the same house as the one before. The masked murder was a 'spirt/ ghoust' that possesed the youngest person in the family, and gets them to kill the rest of the fimily. It was very gorry, and had a pretty good ending for a horror movie. I'd give it a 3 out of 4 stars.

Readding response

I have just started Matched, witch is very well written. It is about a girl that has just been matched to her best friend. When you are matched, you are 'married' to another person. Even is you don't know who they are, and sometimes they even live in another district. Once she is with her best friend, they learn things about each other that will change their relationship. I love this book. It resembles a futuristic society, and its differences from the present.

The other book I read was yummy, and it was about a young boy who shot a girl a little on accident. After he ran, and struggled. He joined a gang, and felt challenged, so he tried to shoot a boy, and missed. After the crime did not blow over, his gang found him. Ill leave the rest to you to read. And the whole society shows the lower level of a city.

Thesis thoughts

The three stories i chose where "The sniper" "Hills like white elephants" and "The girls in there summer dresses". I think out of the three I'm going to write about "the sniper." I noticed a lot of mood and choices that could be defended from either side in all of the stories, but mainly in the sniper. The choices matter the most to the thesis because the sniper's choices can either be defended or argued against, witch is looked for in a good thesis.
One of the main things that he does is shot someone. He is suppose to do it, because they are on the other side of the battle, but it gives away his perch, and he gets shot in the arm. I think that my thesis would have to do with the shots that he fired, and if he would have done differently what would have happened. I'm not really sure though so I think I'll need to keep brain storming.

reading/ literary character

The main thing I have noticed, indirect or direct, all of the short stories have really disruptive images. In Waltz of the Fat Man, I could visualize Noe, all large and lonely and sad. I could almost smell his sadness and meat  when he was first introduced into the story. With a blue suit (that was added later) and a white aporron around his gut.
there was a part where he was thinking about dancing with a women, and started to become perverted. His thoughts where talking about how he would hold her and dance with her. "When he shook the hands of women, he did so vigorously, hoping to see movement on their bodies, some small adventure to take his breath, some nodding yes, some quiet dance of the upper body. This first adventure of a man.
His was a modest plan, and worked a little. The shaking of the hands was, however, the most Noe did. It gave to him so much, and he though the intamentcy of a woman to be so loud, there in front of everybody, that he could go no further." Honestly, that's just weird, but very descriptive. And it is in all of the stories.

participating evalutation

So far in the school year, I feel like I have done about a 9 out of 10 job well done. In general procedures, I'd give myself about and 8. I don't always have everything I need for class, but I do all of my reading and checking my email and stuff. I usually take care of my personal things before class. Under lecture, announcements, whole class discussion, I'd give myself a 9.5 or a 10. I always talk in class discussions, and try to stay on topic. The one thing that I don't do well is not distraction class mates and staying 100% focused the whole class.
I do especially well in group work, I like having friendly arguments with my peers about are beliefs on the subject at hand. I also enjoy the Individual work only because I do best on things that I'm confused about when I'm by myself. I'd give myself a 10 on that subject. Lastly, I feel like have have grown a lot over the 1st quarter, but now that I know tips on editing, and what comma splices are, I would like to become better at it.

Present Writing Poem

I am a writer who... loves writing fiction

F- fantasy (some fiction writing is fantasy
I- imagination (you need to use your imagination to create a story)
C- creation (it can be your own creation)
T- thinking (you need to think to create a story line)
I- intelligence (great stories need intelligent writers)
O- options (you have tons of options with fiction writing)
N- novel (some fiction stories can be novels)

Reading Response

This is going to be a harder post because i have just started the book. It's called Blue Bloods. The base of the book, and the whole series is about vampires. I'm only 30 pages into it. The plot so far is about a girl named Schuyler Van Allen. From what I understand from the book, she is goth, and doesn't fit in. She is now working on tiring to fit in.
I have not really detected a plot pattern, but because of this blog subject, I will keep an eye out. It is a great read, so far. I know this was more of a plot summery blog. There has been only a small amount of rising action, and that was when she saw a boy, named Jack Force, gets hit by a car. Or so she things. I only know that he probably was because "vampires" can heal themselves.

my puncy pooch

Over the past year my dog has gone bonkers. She just is nuts. You can try and change her, or train her, but she will still be insane. She jumps and barks and gets dirty then gets it on everybody. She cant be tamed.

This past weeked, Ginger (my dog) was inside, and we were making granola. She wanted some so she jumped on the table and started eating it. Then she got sick, because there was chocolate in it. We had to take care of her, but she was bouncing everywhere so it was hard. I think she just ran all of her chocolate off.

Literacy narrative

I have spent so much time and dedication, I barely even have time for reading and other assignments. It is about a time when I was in 6th grade. I wrote a beautiful literacy narrative about when I wrote a letter to my favorite author.

I wrote all of my sentences backwards throughout the letter. It hit me hard when I got a C and I thought i was going to get a better grade. I was confused because I thought I was a good writer. My world crumbled when I found out, but i fixed it in the rest of the year. Its like five pages and around 1,600 words.

Free Read

I read a total of exactly 150 minutes this week, and they were all from Perfect witch is the third book in the Pretty Little Liars series. The books are just as good as they have been in past book, but they are starting to get a little boring. I watch the show, and I like the books, but i have a very short attention-spanned so I can't stay on one thing to long. The book still has suspense and mystery, witch I love. But the book is also starting to get a little dry and repetitive.
I'm now looking for suggestions from other peres. So if you know of a good book that you really enjoy, I would love to hear about it. In the novel so far, the main characters have been dealing with the loss from suicide. They also deal with the leaking of video footage, and threats from A, a mysterious person who has been black-mailing them. The story line is great and I still suggest it to anyone who needs a "can't put down" read.

10 min.- 6 pages
10 min.- 8 pages
60 min- 27 pages
60 min- 21 pages (with distractions)

Literacy Narrative

I have already started my  Literacy Narrative and I am almost done with it. It's about when I was in sixth grade. I don't want to give to much away, but it is pretty good in my opinion. In sixth grade we wrote a letter to our favorite authors, and my sort of fell down hill. It was a pretty bumpy, writing changing, road for me. I really hope that I don't write like I use too, and from after sixth grade English I believe that my writing has improved tremendously.

The start of it explains how i wrote before the assignment. It leads into my excitement, and disappointments created by the letter. I end-up with a crazy twist at the end, and I really hope its not boring. I have been working very hard on it, just like my letter. Looking back on what i wrote, it was a very crazy and confusing paper.

Weekly reading

I decided over this past week i would split my reading among two different books. The first one was the thrid in the seris of pretty little lliar books Perfect by Sara Shepard. It is the same amaingness as the past two books all the suspence, drama, and aditude that they have always had. They are also dealling with the lost of a dear friend toby. I read a little bit more then an hour in that, and it was almost inpossoble for me to put it down.

The second book was Listening is an Act of Love, I did not read the whole book just the short stories that Isabella talked about and some one the stories that sounded good to me. I read about and hour and a half of that. The sories were very warm and emotional. They really helped me think about kindness, love, compation, and helping those around me. The stuggles that people go through in the book makes me feel greatful that it has not happened to me. If it has then I can look back on how I delt with it and how they delt with it. This book is really helpful to people who are going through a hard time, and it is a really great book.

Back to the Comments

On me in defence of ........................ Alex and Christine commented. Christine asked if rip-sticking was anything like Skate boarding. I know this sounds crazy, but so many people ask me that or say they're the same. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Sorry, but I personally think rip sticking is easier. You have more range for your feet, but you do have to shift your weight. Skate boards can be harder because u have to push your foot on the ground and shift weight like that and is is more unbalanced. It really just depends on the person and what basic skills they are bad and good at.

Alex's comment was talking about tricks and stuff, and I personally believe that more people need to watch skateboarding in the X-games. Watching the athletes do mctwist (540 degree turn) is amazing its just the most amazing thing you can watch. Along with all of the other tricks and flips it is seriously the most entertaining thing.

Hurricane lock-up

Over the hurricane starting tuesday i did not leave the house at all. I sat there tuesday and watched t.v., Wednesday I read, thursday I read and walked my dog ginger for about an hour. It was probably the most boring thing i had ever done. We did not loose power until about 1 p.m. thursday so I finally escaped to my grandmothers around 6:00 p.m.
The next morning I went to my aunts house and played with my cousins, Mary Caroline (the oldest one in seventh grade) had two friends over and the younger had her other cousins over. Then their neighbor came over and we sprinted around their house and played tag an hide and seek and laughed. It was crazy. I finally broke my house chains and escaped my simple home to bigger and better family adventures, besides Isaac's wrath.

Free read

I honestly have absolutely no clue how much i read over the hurricane. I know that it was more he 5 hours. i finished the pretty little liars book i was reading i had about 150 pages of that left and spent around 1.5 to 2 hours finishing that up. It was amazing honestly the best book i have ever read, but the book standards are pretty low for me. All the suspense and waiting makes you have to read it more. You just can stop witch is the type of book I need.
Then being prepared (as I usually  are not) I moved on to the second book witch was even better. More drama, more tragedy, just more more more. I spent so many hours reading such an exhilarating novel i almost didn't release that are power went out or the fact that I started reading around 10:00 a.m. and put down my book at 2:00 p.m.-ish. it almost hurt me to stop reading. I went by the library today and can not wait to start reading it tonight. Look out world here comes Emory and she READING!!!

In Defences of Skateboarding: A teenager's manifesto

In Defences of Skateboarding: A teenager's manifesto!!! Skateboarding might be one of the most stereotypical sports there is. If you play basketball and someone says "how, your to short?" you can just be like there is other positions. Skate boarding is completely different because people do not think of tall people, or fast runners. No, they think of nasty, sweaty, tattoo covered people who say rude things and have rude actions.

Most people that skate started off as kids going to a local skate park and learning a few tricks. Then, they grow up fall in love with it and do it until there 50 just like some old guys at the skate park. Everybody loves it that's out there. It is really dangerous, but that's just like soccer, or volleyball just in different ways. I think because so many people are concerned about obesity and still preventing their kids from exercising. I guess I'm in between being in defence of skating and fitness.

Through the upcoming school year, i have two English goals. The first one is to be able to spell better and put it into my writing. Right now its best that i type everything because my spelling and handwriting are both so awful. I just need to practice and hopefully learning new words will give me more options that it could use to both spell more words correctly and improve my writing with a better broader vocabulary.

The other thing is to read faster, more, and comprehend it better. I read extremely slow and do not absorb all of the information that is in the text. I feel like the more i read the better I'll get because practice makes perfect. I also need to read out loud when I'm at my house so if it is asked in class one day I'm not frightened. I think that both of thees goals can be achieved through just class room activities with some extra effort, but will be things we do in class.
In the novel The Absolutely True Story of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, a young boy named Jounior is faced with difficulties throughout his life and now faces starting high-school. The one problem is that he is an Indian and wants to get a better education then on the reserve were nobody cares about education and nobody even cares about leaving anymore. Almost everyone on the reservation is poor, addicted to alcohal, or beats family members, its really rough. The kids grow up in hostial enviorments so they do the same things their parents did. Jonior sees things deffrently and finds hope for himself to get out. He also was born with fluid in his brain witch makes him more easy to head tramma, seziers, and has poor eye sight. So Jonior moves to a small privet white school and has major issues thrusted apon him.

Once he moves to his new school he has a hard time fitting in. It turn into a classic new kid story, were he does not fit in then meets a pretty girl and tries to impress her, then he gets into a fight what someone because thats all he knows, that makes people scared of him but sorta respect him at the same time. He tries out for the basketball team and makes the varsaty team in 9th grade witch is impressive. Things end up pretty well at school, but home is a compleatly differant story. His best friend, and the whole reservation despise him and beat him up because he "ditched the reserv. for white people." All together its a pretty great book that you need to read to compleatly understand, it has lots of twist and turns and funny details inbetween with a tarific ending that has to be read to be belived and enjoyed.
